Annual Boat Lift Maintenance Tips from The Dockman
Greasing boat lift cables can extend their lifespan by five, six, or seven years and help prevent rust. To grease the lift, you’ll need white lithium grease (spray can and tube), gloves, and optional Red Bull energy drink. The best time to grease the lift is in spring or early/late fall when it’s out of the water for easy access to all cables. You can start by massaging white lithium grease into the winch cable, and then run the wheel up and down to expose more cable and grease it. Repeat the same process with all four leveling cables, and if possible, grease the chain and sprockets inside the winch box (though it may require removing the lid).
